Overview

What makes a good burger box?

The catch is grease and steam. A burger sweats, so the box needs vents, and a greasy burger needs a liner or coated board. Tell us the burger's size and whether it's wrapped, and we'll say which board to use.

A burger box does three jobs: it holds the burger upright, lets steam out so the bun doesn't go soggy, and carries your brand in a customer's hand. A small vent on the sides does the second. A snug fit does the first.

Most burger boxes are clamshells, one piece of board with a lid that folds over. They ship flat, fold in seconds and stack in a delivery bag.

  • Clamshell base and lid. One piece of board with a hinge fold.
  • Vents. Small cut-outs or slits that let steam out.
  • Grease-resistant liner or coating. Keeps oil from soaking through the print.
  • Printed brand. Outside, and optionally inside the lid.

Sizing

Sizing a burger box

Measure the burger at its widest point and tallest, bun included, with the wrapper on if you use one. A box that's too tight squashes the bun. One that's too loose lets the burger slide.

Send the numbers and we add clearance when we draw the dieline. See shipping box sizes if the boxes also travel in cartons.

Who uses custom burger boxes

  • Restaurants and food trucks. The box is your brand in a customer's hand.
  • Ghost kitchens. A printed box sets one brand apart from another.
  • Caterers. Individual boxed meals.
  • Food packaging buyers. See food packaging.

Finishes

Print the logo, keep the coating simple.

Food boxes need coatings that suit food contact. Aqueous goes on every box by default.

Aqueous coating

Water-based and on every box by default. It recycles with the box.

Debossing

Pressed in, no ink. Works on kraft as well as white board.

Your packaging specialist builds the dieline around your product. Structural design is free.

  3. Step 03

FAQ

Custom burger boxes: questions.

What is the minimum order for burger boxes?

Best value starts at 50 units per design, because of logistics and shipping. If you need fewer, tell us: we can consider smaller orders.

How long do burger boxes take?

10–12 days on most orders, counted from proof approval. Shipping time is on top and depends on where the boxes are going.

Do you charge for structural design?

No. Structural design is $0. We draw the dieline around your product, and you only pay once you order boxes.

Are burger boxes food safe?

We use food-contact board and will tell you whether it suits a greasy or hot burger. Check the FDA rules for your product.

Can I order in bulk for wholesale?

Yes. Burger restaurants order in volume, and bulk is where per-box cost comes down. Tell us the quantity and we'll quote it.

Do burger boxes need vents?

Usually. Small vents let steam out so the bun doesn't go soggy.

Honest fit

When not to hire us.

You need them tomorrow

Production is 10–12 days plus shipping. If you open next week, buy stock burger boxes now and switch to custom for the next run.

You only need a handful of boxes

Best value starts at 50 units, because of logistics and shipping. For 10 or 20 we can consider it, but the cost per box is higher and a stock box with a printed sticker may cost you less.

You need boxes next week

Production runs 10–12 days before shipping. If your launch is sooner, buy stock boxes now and switch to custom for the next run.

You want plain brown boxes

If nothing gets printed, a stock box supplier is cheaper and faster. We're worth it once the box carries your brand.

How big is the burger?

Send the widest point and height with the bun on, and how many boxes a month you use.
