Overview
What is a coffee pouch made of?
The liner is the honest part of this page. Coffee needs a barrier to stay fresh, and most barriers aren't paper. Ask about the liner before you print a recyclable claim on the bag.
A coffee pouch is a flexible bag with a gusseted base, so it stands on a shelf. The outer layer is kraft paper that takes your print. Inside is a liner that keeps air and moisture out.
Roasters often add a one-way valve so the beans can release gas without letting air back in, and a reseal strip so the customer can close it after opening.
- Kraft outer. Printed, one or two inks look best.
- Barrier liner. Keeps the coffee fresh. Your specialist matches it to your roast and shelf life.
- Reseal strip. Zip or press-to-close.
- Valve (optional). Lets roasting gases out.

Board and build
Pouch or box for coffee?
Coffee goes in both. They do different things.
| Pouch | Box with inner bag | |
|---|---|---|
| Freshness | Liner and valve do it | Inner bag does it |
| Shelf | Stands up | Stacks |
| Shipping | Light and flat | Bulkier |
| Gifting | Fine | Better |
For gift sets, a custom rigid box or tea box style carton around an inner bag works well.

Kraft outside or white outside?
The outer layer is about the look.
| Kraft | White | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Natural, roaster feel | Bright, modern |
| Pastel print | Turns beige | Prints true |
| Best for | One or two strong inks | Full color |
Custom kraft boxes: how they print explains how inks shift on brown paper. The same applies to pouches.
Sizing
Size by weight
Pouches are sized by how much coffee they hold. Tell us the weight per bag and whether it's whole bean or ground, since ground coffee packs denser.
We draw the pouch to fit with room for the reseal strip and valve.
Who orders coffee pouches
- Specialty roasters. Single-origin bags in small runs.
- Cafes. House blends to take home.
- Subscriptions. See custom subscription boxes.
- Tea brands. Loose leaf in the same pouch.
Finishes
Print simply on kraft.
Pouches take fewer finishes than boxes. Strong ink on kraft does most of the work.
Foil stamping
Origin or roast name.
Spot UV
Gloss logo on a matte pouch.

FAQ
Custom coffee pouches: questions.
What is the minimum order for custom coffee pouches?
50 units per design.
Are coffee pouches recyclable?
It depends on the liner. Many barrier liners aren't paper, so check before printing a recycling claim. Your specialist will tell you what the liner is.
Do I need a degassing valve?
For freshly roasted whole beans, usually yes. It lets gas out without letting air in.
Can pouches be resealed?
Yes, with a reseal strip near the top.
How long do custom coffee pouches take?
10–12 days on most orders, counted from proof approval. Shipping time is on top.
Honest fit
When not to hire us.
You want a fully plastic-free coffee bag
Most barrier liners aren't paper. If plastic-free matters more than shelf life, sell in a box with a paper inner bag and a shorter best-before.
You need fewer than 50 boxes
Our minimum is 50 units. For 10 or 20, a stock box with a printed sticker will cost you less.
You need boxes next week
Production runs 10–12 days before shipping. If your launch is sooner, buy stock boxes now and switch to custom for the next run.
You want plain brown boxes
If nothing gets printed, a stock box supplier is cheaper and faster. We're worth it once the box carries your brand.
How much per bag?
Send the weight per bag, whole bean or ground, and how many you need.
