Foldwell Packaging

Food packaging, printed in small runs.

Custom food packaging is printed paperboard, kraft or corrugated shaped around what you sell: a cereal carton, a pizza box, a gable box for cookies, a pouch for coffee. Pick the box by how the food is kept, not by how it looks on a shelf.

The catch is food contact. Not every board and coating is cleared to touch food directly, so say what goes in the box before you choose a finish. Dry goods are the simple case. Greasy or wet food needs a different answer.

Guide 1

Match the box to the food

Baked goods go in kraft gable boxes or window-free folding cartons. Add a greaseproof liner if the bake is buttery.

Hot food such as pizza needs corrugated, because the fluted layer keeps the base stiff when the box is hot.

Dry goods like cereal, tea and granola suit paperboard cartons with a liner or bag inside.

Coffee and loose leaf often ship in kraft pouches with a reseal strip.

Guide 2

Food contact and what to ask

Food-contact paper in the US falls under FDA rules, including 21 CFR 176.170 for aqueous and fatty foods. We'll tell you whether a board and coating fits your food before you order.

If the food touches the box directly, say so in your first email. It changes the board, not the price conversation.

Honest fit

When not to hire us.

When this is the wrong page

For fewer than 50 boxes we can consider it, but stock bakery boxes with a printed sticker may cost you less. If you need a shelf-stable sealed pack for wet food, you need a pouch or a can, and we can't help with that. Production takes 10–12 days, so a launch next week needs stock.

FAQ

Food and drink packaging questions.

Are your food boxes food safe?

It depends on the food and whether it touches the box. We'll tell you whether a board and coating suits dry, fatty or hot food before you order. Check the FDA rules for your product.

What is the smallest food packaging order?

50 units per design, which is enough to test a flavor or a seasonal box before a bigger run.

Can I print the nutrition panel on the box?

Yes. Send the panel as part of your artwork. We check bleed, folds and barcodes before the digital proof, but the label content is your responsibility.

Which box keeps food warm?

Corrugated. The fluted layer keeps the base stiff, which is why pizza and burger boxes use it.
