Overview

What makes a good chocolate box?

Chocolate marks and slides. The insert matters as much as the box, so tell us the size and count of each piece. If your chocolate ships in warm weather, plan the shipping method as carefully as the box.

A chocolate box has to hold each piece still, keep fingerprints off and look like a gift. Rigid boxes suit gift sets people keep. Folding cartons suit bars and lower-cost boxes.

When food touches the board, the board and inks have to suit it. In the US, paper that touches fatty food falls under rules such as 21 CFR 176.170. We specify food-contact board once we know what goes in.

  • Box. Rigid lid and base, drawer, or folding carton.
  • Insert. Paperboard with cavities cut to each piece.
  • Liner. Food-contact paper under the chocolates.
  • Print. On the lid and the sleeve.

Sizing

Sizing a chocolate box

Send the size of one piece and how many go in the box, laid out as you want them. Measure at the widest point. The insert holds each piece, so we need the layout.

Don't add clearance yourself. Structural design is $0 and we add it on the dieline. How to measure a box has the order.

How it works

Four steps, one person.

The specialist who picks up your first email stays with the project until the boxes arrive.

  1. Step 01

    Tell us what you're packing

Send the product dimensions, how it ships and how many you need. A photo on a ruler is enough to start.

  2. Step 02

    We draw the structure

Your packaging specialist builds the dieline around your product. Structural design is free.

  3. Step 03

    You approve the proof

Drop your artwork onto the dieline. We check bleed, folds and barcodes, and send a digital proof.

  4. Step 04

    We make and ship

Production takes 10–12 days on most orders. Boxes ship flat, packed in cartons, to your door.

FAQ

Custom chocolate boxes: questions.

What is the minimum order for custom chocolate boxes?

50 units per design. That's enough to test a box with real customers before a bigger run.

Are your chocolate boxes food safe?

We specify food-contact board and inks when food touches the box. Tell us what goes in, and whether it's coated or filled, and we'll confirm the board.

Can you make inserts for each piece?

Yes, paperboard inserts with cavities cut to your pieces. Send the size and count.

Can chocolate boxes have a window?

Yes, as a die-cut hole. We recommend leaving it open rather than adding film, so the box stays plastic-free.

Can you ship chocolate in these boxes?

Chocolate melts, so plan the shipping method for your climate. A rigid box needs a plain mailer around it for the post.

How long do custom chocolate boxes take?

10–12 days on most orders, counted from proof approval. Shipping time is on top.

Honest fit

When not to hire us.

You need them for a holiday next week

Production is 10–12 days plus shipping. If a date is close, buy stock chocolate boxes now and switch to custom for the next run.

You need fewer than 50 boxes

Our minimum is 50 units. For 10 or 20, a stock box with a printed sticker will cost you less.

You need boxes next week

Production runs 10–12 days before shipping. If your launch is sooner, buy stock boxes now and switch to custom for the next run.

You want plain brown boxes

If nothing gets printed, a stock box supplier is cheaper and faster. We're worth it once the box carries your brand.

How many pieces per box?

Send the size of one piece and the count, and how many boxes you need.
