Overview

What makes a good mug box?

The catch is the handle. It sticks out, it's the weakest point, and a mug that can move will break. The insert has to cradle the handle as well as the body. Send the mug's body diameter, height and handle width and we'll draw the insert.

A good mug box stops the mug moving in every direction. A corrugated insert with a cut-out for the body and a pocket for the handle does that. The outer box then only has to survive the carrier.

For shelf sales without shipping, a printed folding carton with a paperboard cradle is lighter and costs less.

Will the mug survive the post?

With a fitted corrugated insert, yes. The insert holds the body and the handle still, which is where mugs break.
