Rigid box · Rigid board
A magnetic closure box is a rigid box with small magnets hidden in the lid and base, so the lid pulls shut on its own. We print them with your brand from 50 units per design, draw the structure for free, and production takes 10–12 days from proof approval.
Overview
Magnets add cost and weight, so they earn their place on boxes people keep: gift sets, jewelry, fragrance. If a plain lid holds your product just as well, use that and put the money into the print.
Two small magnets sit inside the board, one in the lid flap and one in the base, so nothing shows from outside. The lid snaps shut with a soft click and stays closed in a drawer or a bag.
The box underneath is a standard rigid box. The magnet is a closure choice, not a different construction, so everything on our custom rigid boxes page, from wraps to inserts, applies here too.
Specifications
Every box is drawn to your product, so these are the options, not a fixed catalogue. Your specialist confirms the exact spec on the proof.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Style | Rigid, with a flap or lid closure held by magnets. Book-style, shoulder and lid-and-base shapes are all possible |
| Board | Greyboard wrapped in printed, colored or textured paper |
| On the wrap paper, outside and inside | |
| Inserts | Paperboard cut to the items. Foam is possible but doesn't recycle |
| Add-ons | Ribbon pull, thumb cut-out, lining paper |
| Size | Drawn to your product |
| Ships to you | Assembled, so allow room for storage |
| Recyclability | Paper and greyboard recycle. Magnets and laminated wraps should be removed or skipped |
| Order size | Best value from 50 units per design, because of logistics and shipping. Smaller orders can be considered |
| Structural design | $0. We draw the dieline around your product |
| Proof | Digital proof on your dieline, checked for bleed, folds and barcodes |
| Production | 10–12 days on most orders, from proof approval. Shipping time is on top |
| Default finish | Aqueous coating on every box. Water-based, and it recycles with the box |
| Point of contact | One packaging specialist, from first sketch to delivery |
Board and build
Pick by how you want the box to open.
| Style | Opens by | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Book-style | Lifting a front flap, like a book cover | Gift sets, fragrance, a formal reveal |
| Lid and base | Lifting the lid, held shut by magnets | Apparel, keepsakes, larger gifts |
| Shoulder box | Lifting a lid that rests on a raised neck | Candles, perfume |
| Collapsible | Folding flat for storage, then standing up | Brands that ship boxes flat to save room |
All four can carry the same wrap and insert. Ask your specialist which one suits the weight of the product.
Compare
Both are rigid boxes. The difference is how the box shuts and what it costs.
| Magnetic closure | Plain lid | |
|---|---|---|
| Feel | Snaps shut, stays closed | Lifts off, can slide |
| Cost | Higher, because of the magnets | Lower |
| Weight | A little heavier | Lighter |
| Best for | Boxes people keep and reuse | Boxes that are opened once |

Sizing
Send the inside size of whatever goes in, laid out as it will sit, plus any tissue and a card. Measure at the widest point of each item.
Don't add clearance yourself. Structural design is $0 and we add it when we draw the dieline, including room for the magnets. If you're unsure which side is which, read how to measure a box.
Finishes
Most magnetic closure boxes need one finish, not four. Aqueous coating goes on every box by default.
Metallic foil on the logo. It catches the light on the shelf.
Pressed in, no ink. Works on kraft as well as white board.
Gloss on one area of a matte box. Good for a logo, bad for small text.
A velvet feel, but it adds a plastic layer. Skip it if you need plastic-free.
Quote
One measurement and a quantity is enough to start. Your specialist replies with a structure, so you can see the box before you commit to anything.
How it works
The specialist who picks up your first email stays with the project until the boxes arrive.
Step 01
Send the product dimensions, how it ships and how many you need. A photo on a ruler is enough to start.
Step 02
Your packaging specialist builds the dieline around your product. Structural design is free.
Step 03
Drop your artwork onto the dieline. We check bleed, folds and barcodes, and send a digital proof.
Step 04
Production takes 10–12 days on most orders. Boxes ship flat, packed in cartons, to your door.
FAQ
Best value starts at 50 units per design, because of logistics and shipping. If you need fewer, tell us: we can consider smaller orders.
10–12 days on most orders, counted from proof approval. Shipping time is on top and depends on where the boxes are going.
No. Structural design is $0. We draw the dieline around your product, and you only pay once you order boxes.
The paper and greyboard are. The magnets are small, and we'd suggest removing them before you recycle the box. A plain lid skips the issue altogether.
Not on its own. A rigid box needs a plain mailer or shipping box around it. See custom mailer boxes.
No. They're set inside the board, so the box looks like any other rigid box.
Honest fit
If the box is opened once and thrown away, magnets are money you'll never see back. Use a lid-and-base rigid box, or a folding carton for lighter products.
Best value starts at 50 units, because of logistics and shipping. For 10 or 20 we can consider it, but the cost per box is higher and a stock box with a printed sticker may cost you less.
Production runs 10–12 days before shipping. If your launch is sooner, buy stock boxes now and switch to custom for the next run.
If nothing gets printed, a stock box supplier is cheaper and faster. We're worth it once the box carries your brand.
Send the size of the item or set, or a photo of it on a ruler, and how many you need.
